Everything You Need To Know About The NBA

The NBA is America’s highest level of basketball and one of the most exciting and fast-paced sports for fans to enjoy.

Since the 1950s and ’60s, the NBA became a universally recognized league and moved into the mainstream sporting environment. Since then the sport has gone from strength to strength and is now considered to be the third most-watched sport in the US.

The 2021/22 season is the 75th anniversary season of the NBA and the Milwaukee Bucks will be looking to defend their title with NBA lines having them as being third favorites this time out behind the LA Lakers in second and favorites Brooklyn Nets.

Games are 48 minutes long and split into four quarters. When in possession of the ball, each side has 24 seconds to take a shot at the basket. If they take too long to ball is handed over to the other side.

There are 30 teams in the NBA split into Eastern and Western conferences. Within each conference are three individual divisions. The winners of each division will go into the playoffs while there is a play-in tournament for the best remaining teams to see who else will make it into the playoffs in April. Each side has a roster of at least eight, but up to 17 per game with five players on the courts per side during the game. Players can score 1, 2 or 3 points per shot. 1 point is awarded for scoring a free throw; 2 points for scoring inside the 3-point line and 3 points for scoring from outside.

The Five Players On Court Will Fill Five Different Positions

The Point Guard is traditionally the smallest player on the court and is considered the playmaker of the side. Running the offense, the point guard brings the ball up the court after the other side has scored and sets the pace and direction of the attack.

Alongside the point guard is the Shooting Guard. They are often the player who makes the most shots as the name suggests and can be used to bring the ball up the court like the Point Guard. This dual role makes them a key part of the attacking play and many of the most famous basketball players played this position such as Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.

The Center is usually the biggest player on the court. They are used around the basket in both ends of the court, setting screens and often scoring rebounds, while out of possession they protect the basket and block shots. Players like Shaquille O’Neil and Kareem Adbul-Jabbar are two of the most famous centers to play in the NBA.

The final two players are the Power Forward and the Small Forward. The Power Forward is usually bigger and regularly the player makes the most three-point shots for the side. In the past, they filled a similar role to the center but now are required to be far more athletic. Small forwards are often the best defenders on the roster while also being very versatile and in the attacking end. One of the best players to play this role is LeBron James who is considered one of the greatest NBA players of all time.

The 2021/22 season got underway on 20 October 2021 with the playoffs set for April 2022 and the finals to begin on 2 June 2022. Games will be played on NBA League pass as well as a number of different channels and streaming options.

There are a number of ways to bet on the NBA. Punters can choose depending on their understanding and knowledge of the game.
